What are you waiting for? The time is now.

The way in which you show up for yourself everyday determines the rest of your life. You only get today because tomorrow never comes and yesterday is always gone. In the same way, only you can decide the what, the when, the where, the why, the how. My point being, it is you. It is only ever going to be you and it's only ever going to be today. Not tomorrow, not next week, not next year. The time for change is always now.
And our health is no exception to this. How you look after your health today will determine you health tomorrow, next week, next month, next year. And how you look after yourself this year, will determine next year and next year will determine the year after that and so on. It's like that very quintessential British saying, 'look after the pennies and the pounds look after themselves.' When you strive to be that 1% better than yesterday and make that your only focus, then by the end of the year you are 365% better than who you where last year. Now doesn't 1% better everyday sound achievable? It is all about baby steps.
In that sense, it's not complicated. In fact it is very very simple, so don't go over complicating it. You see, the actual process of being 1% better is simple in principle but it's the consistency and disciple people find difficult.
So, what does it mean to be 1% better? Well everyones goals are different so everyones 1% will be different too.
Here are some examples of ways to level up your life 1 day at a time.
If you struggle to drink 2L a day and say are currently drinking about 500ml of water, aim to get 800ml the next day. The day after that aim for 1L and so on until you hit your goal.
If you want to achieve 10,000 steps a day but currently only get 8000 then work on increasing is by 200 each day until you reach your 10,000.
Want to get up earlier? Well then you will need to go to bed earlier. Start by trying to get to bed 30 minutes earlier to then wake 30 minutes earlier. If this is too much then try 15 minutes. Keep doing that until you reach your bedtime/ wake up time goal.
Trying to increase your protein, vegetable, calorie intake? You guessed it, start small and work your way up.
My last tip and something I consider to be the most important part, try and go for a week of consistently hitting your goal before incorporating another big goal. The point in improving your health is to make it apart of your life. Lock down your healthy habits and make them just that, a habit, before you move on to the next.
So many people give up on their goals because they expect to conquer them in one big fell swoop but that is not reality and that will in most cases, only set you up for failure. Focus on the 1%, the little steps, the actual reality of making these healthy lifestyle changes. They're supposed to be manageable and something you can stick to whilst also being that little bit challenging. If it isn't even slightly challenging then I suggest you up the anty!
I discovered the power of 1% when I read the book Atomic habits by James Clear and I would highly recommend.
This life is what you make of it so make yourself happy 🤍
